What are you taking for granted?

Beardsley’s Cider Mill & Orchard, Shelton, CT - fall 2022

As Thanksgiving approaches, we all turn towards the people and things in our lives that we are thankful for and want to recognize. Many of us start making our list of blessings.

Yet, how many daily experiences do we take for granted?

My family and I live in New England. The fall season is breathtaking with the summer leaves changing before our eyes to golden and burnt red colors. It is a beautiful site to witness. We are accustomed to welcoming in the change of seasons; and, the vibrant colors of the fall are awesome.

Yes, we look forward to it!  We also expect it and live with and among this period just like the other three seasons.  But this one is different. Nature makes it that way.

On the drive up to Litchfield County, CT

New England welcomes visitors from all around the world. Our state of Connecticut alone welcomes tourists that travel from near and far to see the crisp colors of the fall leaves. Best places and times to see the leaves are reported on and mapped out. I recently spoke to a tourist from Colorado who was visiting Connecticut.  Let’s face it, Colorado is a beautiful nature state too. She was sharing with me how they have been driving around areas of New England to catch the breathtaking fall leaves at peak. Being a little cynical I said, “Colorado must also be beautiful this time of year”. She said, “Not like this”. There you have it. I am living in a fall wonderland and while I think I recognize the beauty, I am not recognizing it as THE BEAUTY that people are getting on a plane to see. It is that majestic!

Do I take it for granted?

Yes, sometimes, but for the most part I know that I am incredibly blessed to walk on a trail in a postcard perfect fall scene. Or, drive down a road where golden leaves are lining my ride.

I am thankful for the beautiful season of fall. I am super thankful that I get to experience it in the “Mecca” of the fall of wonderland.

As we prepare for this season of thanksgiving let us be thankful for our daily routines and experiences. Don’t take it for granted. Enjoy it, others do.  Now, it is time to start raking up those leaves.
