When does your "new year" start?

While January 1st always kicks off the calendar year, “back to school” for me, seems more like a more natural start to a new year.

We are trained from an early age that the end of summer means the start of a new school year; and the beginning of a new year of experiences.  Going back to school in the fall, is an instinctive habit that we come to expect because we have done it for so long.  This timing has been a huge part of our formative years.  I do not think that ever leaves us.

As we grow up and become professionals, we work on strategic plans and budgets.  These in-depth and sometimes complex activities (definitely time-consuming) are all driven by the company’s fiscal calendar.  It is just a feeling, but it is my opinion that if I took a poll, most professionals would feel “back to school” aligns with the start of a new beginning or a new year.  I can say that I even felt like this working in the corporate world before I even became a Mom.

Well, this week is “back to school” for my daughter.  She starts her sophomore year of high school.  She is looking forward to new beginnings; exploring new sports, meeting new people and dissecting a frog!  Her school’s theme this year is BE HERE, and BE YOU.

Honestly, I too am feeling that same inherent pull that this is the natural order to start a new year with new beginnings and exploring new things.  BE HERE, and BE YOU can apply to all of us as we “go off to school this fall” to start a new year.

A new beginning that I will be exploring will take place on Jarvis Consultants social media channels and will launch this fall on Saturdays and Sundays.  #SaturdaySentiments will explore our mindfulness with little snippets that challenges us all to be present in the moment; and #LeadershipNugget will post on #SundayMornings focusing on tips on how to be organized and be prepared for the unexpected upcoming work week.

These posts are a direct result of a theme that consistently emerges with my clients from different sectors of business.  Why are Jarvis Consultants’ output services and deliverables consistently different and reliable?  Our approach takes critical and creative thinking exchanges that leads to developing innovative planning, processes and programs.  And, while some of the posts might seem quirky and others seem logical; for Jarvis Consultants it all works together in developing something that is innovative and sustainable.  We hope you enjoy them and as the “new year” starts we challenge you to BE HERE, and BE YOU.
