Are you showing up for family, friends and neighbors like they are your clients?

May kicks off a month filled with milestones like graduations, weddings, first communions, and other life events that bring people together to celebrate growth, love, and new beginnings. As solopreneurs, we are often deeply committed to our businesses and the customers who we serve, tirelessly. But in the midst of our entrepreneurial drive, it is critical to remember the importance of showing up for the people who matter most in our lives: our family, friends, and neighbors.

While our businesses may be our passion and livelihood, our relationships with loved ones are what truly sustain and keep us sane! The people closest to us give us emotional support and encouragement that help us through the challenges of entrepreneurship. In May, as we celebrate key moments in the lives of people who are import to us, it is essential to make time for these events, whether it is a graduation ceremony, a wedding reception, or a quiet family gathering. These times mark special moments that go beyond work, reminding us of the importance of connection, love, and shared experiences that create memories.

It is easy to get caught up in the demands of running a business, believe me I know but showing up for these personal events is an investment in our well-being and relationships. Attending these celebrations not only shows our loved ones that we care, but it also reinforces our place in the community, allowing us to build stronger bonds with those around us. Whether it is offering support to a newlywed couple or congratulating a graduate, these moments enrich our lives and can even inspire us to approach our business with a renewed energy.

As solopreneurs, sometimes we feel obligated to be constantly “on” for our customers, but it is equally important to be present for the people who’ve supported us on our journey. Taking time away from work to engage in these meaningful life events not only helps us maintain a sense of balance but also fosters a sense of gratitude and appreciation for the relationships that are our foundation to our happiness and success.

My cousin always says “you are not your job” and he is so right. So, as summer rolls in and the celebrations start, remember that life is not just about what we do in business, but about how we show up for the people who matter most. Take the time to celebrate with them, I know that I will because my daughter will graduate high school at the end of the month and will be off to college in the fall. I plan to celebrate with her, family and friends like it is 1999 :)!

Stop, take the time and show up for family, friends and neighbors like you do for your clients. I am confident that it will help all of us find that balance between work and life making both aspects richer and more rewarding!
